Jake: "Last night was quiet. Not sure if the native wildlife is getting used to us or what, but the nights are quieter than they used to be."
"@ and I are handling the patrols. Getting used to seeing what's normal and what's not. Getting a feel for the land."
Gunner: @ Gunner walks patrol, looking out at the now-familiar territory. "Startin' to seem like home, huh?" He is only half-joking.
Jake: I look at @ and smirk. "No. "Home" is polluted and disease-ridden. This is...pure. Pristine." I pause. "It's growing on me."
Gunner: Gunner nods as he walks. "I know what you mean. Getting comfortable here. Getting used to it. Startin' to relax."
Jake: I chuckle as we walk. "That's a good thing, right?" @
Gunner: @ Gunner smirks. "Maybe. Though getting too comfortable may not be such a good th-" He stops in mid-sentence, looking around, listening. "Somthin's not right."
Jake: I give a puzzled look. @. "What is it?" I get my rifle, readying it. All I hear is trees rustling, some movement in the distance. Nothing unusual that I can tell. Griz has been known to be paranoid. Maybe this is one of those times. @
Gunner: @ Gunner lowers his voice. "Some of the smaller animals are on the move. Fast. Goin' through the trees. You can tell from the sounds of the leaves." He starts heading towards the direction of the noise, towards the camp.
Jake: I follow @, still puzzled. "Animals move all the time, Griz. What's the deal?" I notice his stride is getting faster.
Gunner: Gunner moves quickly, heading for camp. "When smaller animals move that fast, it means one thing. Something bigger is--" He breaks off as a high-pitched scream pierces the air, coming from the direction of the camp, definitely female. "Hunting." He starts running towards the camp, weapon drawn.
Jake: I hear the scream echo, hearing the panic and fear in it. I break into a run, following @, weapon ready. Is it Zoe? Misha? (c)(c) Kelti? I can't tell. I run faster, close behind @. As we approach the camp, I see....
