Attack

Jake: "Last night was quiet. Not sure if the native wildlife is getting used to us or what, but the nights are quieter than they used to be."
"@Gunner_Haines and I are handling the patrols. Getting used to seeing what's normal and what's not. Getting a feel for the land."

Gunner: @Capt_Jake Gunner walks patrol, looking out at the now-familiar territory. "Startin' to seem like home, huh?" He is only half-joking.

Jake: I look at @Gunner_Haines and smirk. "No. "Home" is polluted and disease-ridden. This is...pure. Pristine." I pause. "It's growing on me."

GunnerGunner nods as he walks. "I know what you mean. Getting comfortable here. Getting used to it. Startin' to relax."

Jake: I chuckle as we walk. "That's a good thing, right?" @Gunner_Haines

Gunner: @Capt_Jake Gunner smirks. "Maybe. Though getting too comfortable may not be such a good th-" He stops in mid-sentence, looking around, listening. "Somthin's not right."

Jake: I give a puzzled look. @Gunner_Haines. "What is it?" I get my rifle, readying it. All I hear is trees rustling, some movement in the distance. Nothing unusual that I can tell. Griz has been known to be paranoid. Maybe this is one of those times. @Gunner_Haines

Gunner: @Capt_Jake Gunner lowers his voice. "Some of the smaller animals are on the move. Fast. Goin' through the trees. You can tell from the sounds of the leaves." He starts heading towards the direction of the noise, towards the camp.

Jake: I follow @Gunner_Haines, still puzzled. "Animals move all the time, Griz. What's the deal?" I notice his stride is getting faster.

Gunner: Gunner moves quickly, heading for camp. "When smaller animals move that fast, it means one thing. Something bigger is--" He breaks off as a high-pitched scream pierces the air, coming from the direction of the camp, definitely female. "Hunting." He starts running towards the camp, weapon drawn.

Jake: I hear the scream echo, hearing the panic and fear in it. I break into a run, following @Gunner_Haines, weapon ready. Is it Zoe? Misha? (c)(c) Kelti? I can't tell. I run faster, close behind @Gunner_Haines. As we approach the camp, I see....

Patrols

"It's getting dark. I can already hear the larger animals getting restless. It seems that a good number of the fauna here are nocturnal."

"@Gunner_Haines and I have been out on patrols. Time for us to be heading back to the camp. @Dunixi_Jyoti can watch over the women, but I prefer to have all of us together when it's dark. Safety in numbers. And @Gunner_Haines is more of a badass than @Dunixi_Jyoti is."

"Yeah, I think women need protecting. Call me a chauvinist. I don't give a damn."

Settling In

We've got the basic camp set up. Nothing fancy, but it keeps us sheltered. @Gunner_Haines and I have been running guard duty, keeping an eye out for the creatures that are native to this world. Some are freaking huge. @Dunixi_Jyoti has been observing them, trying to find out if they're a threat. Hell, I'd be happy if he just said we could *eat* the damned things. I'm sick of rations already.

As I figured, @Zoe_Rizzo isn't thrilled with my proclamation that she stay with me or @Gunner_Haines at night, for protection. At least she hasn't beat the snot out of him yet. Although I think she's smacked him a few times. He probably deserved it.

For the most part, @Kelti_Gerlinde and @Dunixi_Jyoti keep to themselves, doing their scientific shtick. Talking in German. Drives me nuts.

And, finally, @Misha_Richards is....quiet. She won't tell me what's bugging her. If anything. I'm hoping she'll tell me soon. I'm worried.

And me? I'm just trying to keep all of us alive.
